Why I stopped upgrading my CS suite (for some time)

I have bought applications for years, it is a tradition to rush to the software maker to see what is new about any new application and in some oportunities download a test drive to salivate the beast in our computers, but recently I have seen a degradation in what software makers are willing to do in order to dry your bank account while giving you only a fresh new face for a software that you don’t really need.

Here my case:
Adobe is a powerhouse, it is the defacto, the standard when it comes to Graphic Design and TV amination softwares, the quality, the dedication and the superior taste of what Adobe does with its applications is unbeatable, nobody can reach the level of standards in Adobe Applications.

But there is a real problem, first is that Adobe has started to treat mac users as a second class citizen and their applications are almost first and polished for Windows based PC while mac versions lag behind, until now this is a solvable problem, you just wait a few weeks or months as we did for the native mac os x 10.5 versions of Adobe CS suite.

The second and most important situation and the main reason for me to stop upgrading to a new version of any Adobe Application is an economy vs reliability.

Here it is”
Adobe launches products X, products X is supposed to be an improvement over the last version of the same application, it must runs faster and help you do a better job, but in the end, those applications do nothing to enhancement your workflow and the new features while amazing and out of this world don’t justify the upgrade price.

Adobe usually changes the face of the application, its box, its icon, change the layout and group or subdivide tools that the only thing to do is just create an enormous confusion because you have been looking for feature Y in the Windows Menu and now this function is in another menu.

We has been testing different versions with different mac and pc configurations and you know what, the previous CS version works better and faster in the newer mac or pc and when what you really need is speed and reliabilty we can ignore any new feature, even if this feature does fancy things or look cute.

I don’t guarantee that you will have the same results and don’t recommend you to stop upgrading, what I will always recommend is to do research before spending any money, in this economy every penny counts.

Something that I would like to see in Adobe is an Application Leasing System, where you rent for a period of time any application, pay for it a monthly quota and when you are done paying receive an option to buy or to continue paying for the upgrade. This will cut some stress from company suffering economy downturn, but that really need the upgrade version.

Stumble It!
