Microsoft to Counter-attack the “Get a Mac” campaign, duh?
InformationWeek is reporting that Microsoft is planning to take on the “Get a Mac” campaign that has been criticizing Windows Vista poor performance and that has managed to have a tremendous effect in computer users switching from Windows PC to Mac. Microsoft will tell people how good is Windows Vista now and how the Wow effect will solve your recent Windows nightmares.
This is going to be the most ambitious and worse spent dollar in any campaign, while Public Relations and good advertising could sweet your sour image to the public, these manuevers won’t help Microsoft fix the end user experience one at a time.
They better spend their money redesigning from ground up the whole Windows thing and come out with something that has been tested and approved by users. Vista has been a flop because Microsoft didn’t have a clear roadmap for the OS.
Now they are feeling the heat, the I am a Mac, I am a PC has punched them down and the public has realised that Windows Vista wasn’t ready for Primetime.
Microsoft last famous advertising campaign for Windows Vista was the “Wow” and let me tell you, those ads were uglies and didn’t helped much, it was some kind of “Foul”, they were tasteless and you don’t really know what they were telling or selling. The wow dissapeared and inmediately Microsoft started talking about how good will be System 7, damn, how would you tell your costumers that your next product will be better than your actual one? This is Microsoft. Nobody wants Vista and Microsoft has been helping with that, providing information about System 7, the next version of Vista, the one that will solve ALL our PC problems.
The campagn will cost 300 million dollars and will be done by Crispin Porter + Bogusky, but I bet that all Apple ads are created inside Apple and then taped by WA \ Chiat \ Day. Steve won’t let Apple ads be done without his stamp.
Hello I am Windows Vista PC… good luck for the agency, this is going to be their most complicated task ever.
