AppleTV has been a hobby project for Apple and there is not doubt that there’s something big waiting to happen, but as usual, nobody really knows what’s the future for this little device, it could end up being an attempt to enter a market that Apple later could decide isn’t sustainable, cutting down the project.

AppleTV was suppose to be the internet tv, youtube for our digital TVs, but Apple has been adding features sooooo slooow that I really don’t know where is this project going… AppleTV lacks the most common features, it can’t record, play or pause live tv and it won’t for a long time because Apple is the main seller of recorded TV programs. Dual standard here, so Apple will always check which business is more profitable and add features to the AppleTV without alienating its TV Programs Download at iTunes and because there is not business in let people Record-Play-Pause live tv with AppleTV when your main source of money comes from selling those same programs AppleTV will record.

If I were to make a decision about AppleTV, this will be:

1.- Open AppleTV to third party developers.
Let everyone adds whatever they can to the device.

2. Make it runs all video codecs available.
More codecs more people willing to buy AppleTV.

3. License WMV and RealPlayer video technologies.
Apple did it with Exchange for the iPhone, why not with WMV or Realplayer.

4. Put some games on it.
License some Nintendo, Sega and Sony arcade games and put them on the hard drive ready to rumble.

5. Make a Black version.
There are more black electronic appliances than white, so Black is the new white.

AppleTV will be evolving slowly until Apple consider it profitable enough to dedicate some time tweaking and selling it like it should, it is a great hobby device, cute and small, but if Apple wants to stay on the market, more features are needed and faster.
