Are Palm+Sprint playing the price game to derail Apple Event?

In a chapter of the new War Against Apple from Palm and its attempt to catch iPhone users the hard way, Palm+Sprint yesterday unveiled a $100 credit to those users who jump from other carriers to the Palm+Sprint duo, the offer was later shut-down by Sprint itself citing that the whole Offer was put on the system by mistake…. yep, but the little and interesting thing about the credit is that is just in time for the Apple Event today, plus a urgent price cut for the Pre that now can be ordered for $150 in another desperate and aggressive move to lure more users from other carriers (iPhone).
But wait, Palm+Sprint are unveiling today the Pixi, the smaller brother of the Pre, which is being launched for this holiday season and while the Pixi is a nice looking phone, the Pixi is not the Pre and won’t get the same buzz around the net the Pre got, so if Palm+Sprint are thinking to have a real hit with the Pixi, they must start cutting even more the price of the Pre to attract more budget-trapped customers.
The Pre hasn’t been the hit Palm+Sprint predicted and the price cutting has demonstrated, they have been trying to force people into the platform without any real success and while they may get thousands of customers taking advantage of those aggressive moves from Palm+Sprint in the long run their profit will be eaten by those price adjustments.
Palm+Sprint strategy is not fully working, they have an excellent phone, but put it in a fight with the iPhone wasn’t, isn’t and won’t be the smarter thing on earth, they must run away from the iPhone and create its own atmosphere, the Pre environment where it can be viewed and admired by its own credits nor by comparing it with what the iPhone has o may not has, this is the most stupid thing I’ve seen, launching a product and resting in your rivals applications or mimmick your rival device in order to have connectivity with the rival application (itunes). Come on Palm, wake up.
