ShoppingWindows 7 leaked to outshine Apple Snow Leopard or own Vista failure
The recent leak of Microsoft Windows 7 turns on my doubts on the real motives, there are two strong possibilities here and both helps Microsoft set expectations for their new Vista replacement, here my ideas:
1. Windows 7 = First than Snow Leopard
Microsoft wants to keep Apple out of its way and leaking Windows 7 will create a much higher anticipation for it while outshining Apple Snow Leopard at the same time, Snow Leopard is said to be demonstrated at Macoworld 2009 early next year.
Leaking Windows 7 could only cause some future Vista users to avoid it and wait for the next new thing from Microsoft.
2. Stop Defection
Microsoft noticed that Windows Vista sales are soooo bad that leaked Windows 7 trying to stop massive defection from Vista users, this defection not only means users going to Windows XP instead of Vista, this could mean Windows users moving to Mac OS X or Linux completely.
But leaking Windows 7 could also mean desperation, Microsoft invested billion of dollars developing Windows Vista, but doesn’t have the expected success (or none) of Windows XP or better, this time Microsoft wants to have a product on the market, the only problem is that Apple is preparing Snow Leopard for the same year and this could force Microsoft to rush even more the development of Windows 7 even if this mean chopping features like happened with Vista. Desperation is not a good friend.
