Will Apple and Google ever clash over their Mobile Phone strategy?
This week we noted the new voice search app from Google that turns the iphone into a personal assitant in moments when rumors point to a possible entering into Search Business by Apple, but the real problem could be if Apple decides to incorporate Voice Commands to the iPhone OS, this will overlap Google recent update to its search application forcing them to kill it or avoid the Apple implementation.
Both companies are working their ass off to bring the most higher satisfaction to their respective users, Google will always try to stay on top of mobile search innovation and Apple will make things easier, but what if Google innovations end up being launched first for Android and then to the iPhone?
This possibility is right at the next corner, Google will favor first its own development and while Google says that the Android Team works apart, in the end Android in the long run represents for Google more than the iPhone, and while Apple is not the main target right now, it doesn’t guarantee that some bullets won’t hit it.
The most interesting part is that Apple suffered similar situation with softwares launched first for Windows and then for the Mac, this is one of the main reasons of Adobe losing mac faithful, this time around Apple is more than ready to implement whatever it decides, it totally control the iPhone and mandates what runs or not or when it runs on the iPhone. Apple is 100% independent from outside developers in order to carry the iPhone platform to the next level and while Google applications could help increase the usability and the mass adoption their dismisss, if ever occur, will be irrelevant or replaced by any other technology created at Apple, I am not judging the quality, the dedication or even the commitment by Google, I am talking about business decisions that Google will have to face soon, develop for the Android platform or for the iPhone first and the imminent clash with Apple.
Apple has learned some dirty tricks with the years, it has rejected Flash and demonstrated us that Flash with its Rich Application infrastructure and its quasi monopoly is not a welcome pal at the iPhone and we have lived without, so if Apple implements Voice Navigation to the iPhone, this will automatically puts Google Voice Search into its crosshair, the AppStore has a history of rejecting applications that overlap each others, so let’s just wait to see how Apple can match Google on the iPhone.
