Apple has been an innovator from day one, setting the pace for new technologies and bringing ideas to the masses being the mouse was one of those introduction to the computer that gave us the real interaction between man and machine.

But Apple has been put to consider its own present and future when other developers fail to extend their technologies and provide in a faster pace their products to end users.

Apple entered the retail business with the Apple Stores in a moment where Gateway was shutting down its own retail business, when Dell was a monster selling millions of PCs every quarter and letting not space to others.

Apple invested in Safari to provide a truly mac based browser that compete with other browsers in other platforms with the same or better technology.

Apple invested in Final Cut Pro when Adobe failed to match Adobe Premiere on Mac with the same level of innovation and features of the PC version.

Apple started making Cinema Display when the Display technology was tanked and there was little space for innovation, the Cinema Display reduced the massive use of cables and provided USB connection, Firewire and more.

Apple invested in the iPhone when the smartphones weren’t not so smart and the market was crowded with products with a minimum differentiator and a small space for innovation, the iPhone instantaneously changed the public perception and taught a hard lesson to Motorola and others that are suffering their poor Research in the mobile phone business.

Apple embraced the Intel processor when IBM consider that the PowerPC chip that will power the Xbox and the Playstation Consoles represented a more lucrative business than providing those chips to Apple for their PowerMac line, now Apple is in robust position when it comes to chips for their macs, Apple can choose between AMD and Intel in any given moment or even better Apple can invest into Via Technologies and create a Intel compatible chip that can power the macintosh.

Now Apple is setting the pace again with the iPhone chip design, it is said that Apple intentions with the ARM technology is to extend it to other mobile devices, being this the main reason for Mark Papermaster hiring, Papermaster – a guru in PowerPC chips design and now the head of the iPhone Unit – a 26 year technology veteran that will help catapult Apple to an even greater market in at faster pace.

Apple is now the owner of its destiny, it can create a better graphic application and compete with Adobe when considered necessary, Apple now can create a mobile phone and displace Microsoft Mobile business in less than 2 years or innovate a little to become a major player in the laptop space. It is easier for Apple to fight the 800 LB Gorilla because it is now a Bigger Gorilla without even trying to be one and this is something unthinkable 10 years ago when we were all praying that Apple weren’t bougth by Oracle or Microsoft or any other technology dinosaurs.
