Economy will force Apple gains marketshare

As economy weaken day by day and people is prioritizing their spending on gas and food while other non critical needs are relegated to a second or third place, Apple should adapt its computers and electronic gadgets prices to meet current and future clients’ pockets.

People will look for even cheaper computers trying to save some money and this is where Apple should stand for, lowering or creating irresistible offers that help parents buy more mac for their sons and daughters and cheaper macs mean more sales and while more sales don’t really mean more money to Apple in the short run, it could drive more and more people to the platform and this is something that always translate into more sale in any given moment. I calculate that for every mac users there are at least 2 Switchers in a year period and this could really help moving more macs out of Apple. I have been buying 2 iMacs 20″ refurbished (US$950+tax) every 45 days or less for my design classes students or family members and I am not an Apple Reseller.

Apple should take this economy downturn to create an ultra affordable mac, not a mac mini, but a 17″ iMac with a price tag between $600 and $700, if Apple relaunch the 17″ iMac as the new entry mac this will double the marketshare in less than a year.

The margin earn in every new mac sold will be drastically reduced, but in the end the sale volume could help restore it while helping to extend the user base with new Switchers that could become iPod or iPhone users at the same time.

So, it is time to rethink the sale pitch and sacrifice even more than already planned, there is not relief in sight for this global economy erosion and create user based strategies that meet people needs and already beaten financial status.
