Blackberry prepares its own Application Center… innovation is sleeping in some companies
Blackberry is launching a new Operating System (Storm 4.7) for its smartphone and together with Storm there is a bunch of new features and a new Application Center aimed at competing with Apple AppStore. The Blackberry Application Center will lets users find, browse and install 3rd party Blackberry applications, it will serve the interface for the carrier directory list of applications with description for each application.
Some predict that the Blackberry Application Center will be more business-like than the AppStore, but don’t forget that Blackberry has a big audience in corporations all over the world, so it is too early to compare it with Apple iPhone Business Applications, but this is something to take into consideration in a year or less, Apple is taking business customers from Blackberry in a fast pace.
Apple wasn’t the first company that create a Application Directory for its devices, Microsoft has had a similar Application directory for mobile devices for years, but recently announced the SkyMarket, an AppStore-like Application Directory for mobile devices, Google announced its Google Android Market and now Blackberry is in the same direction with the Blackberry Application Center. While Apple didn’t pioneered the segment it seems that AppStore is going to be the standard when creating a new Application directory and it still in evaluation how people react to those stores.
