Apple 20% marketshare in notebook could be improved
Apple is enjoying an increasing marketshare in the notebook sector due to better pricing and features packed in Macbooks and their appealing to young students looking for the latest gadget trend. Macbooks are everywhere and are almost a requisite for every education institution in the U.S. and the main reason for this spark in the Macbook sales is because of the multiplatform capabilities of the machine, young students find more appealing a computer that can run Windows, Mac OS X and Linux simultaneously.
But, there is more that Apple can do to gain even more market, if the rumored “Brick” device is some kind of Tablet or Subnotebook, Apple could extend its increasing dominance in the field entering into those new segments with more features and a better priced strategy. There’s not chance for Apple to stop and see how the market in the subnotebook evolve, Apple should attack right where they have a better standing position, if it’s the education market, then take all the guns to that market and pack features designed especially to them.
Other things to consider when it comes to take over the market it that Apple NEEDS to advertise their products not only the iPod/iPhone or iTunes, if Apple creates an advertising strategy like the iPod/iTunes for their other products then the marketshare gaining will be twofold, but letting the word of mouth and some newspapers or magazine advertising for Mac hardware won’t help as much as a direct and specific designed marketing strategy that let everybody what a Macbook can do compare with other known brands.
