iphone 3G: Apple enterprise trojan horse
Apple has been struggling to have a foot in the IT department of any big and small corporation, it has gained a niche category on the mobile computer category where macbooks are doing more than perfect, but big sales to enterprises have been cold and without a real business strategy the mac became The Ugly Duckling of Corporate America.
Everybody knows the mac plaftorm is easier to use, elegant, virus free and easy to maintain, but IT departments have been reluctant to support them, making more difficult for Apple to make inroads in corporations.
With the first generation of the iPhone, Apple had the most ambitious project in years, create a mobile platform from the ground up and compete with heavy hitters like Motorola, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and survive, none of them anticipated that the Apple’s next move will be bigger than Apple itself.
The iPhone has morphed from a innovative smartphone to a new mobile platform, where developers create thousands of new applications and solutions for personal and business use and this is when corporations realized that the iPhone is more than a simple phone, it is more than a powerful mobile platform that can be attatched to their corporate network and provide information on the road for million of business of users.
Support from businesses to the iPhone has gained Apple a new enemy, RIM, the most profitable mobile phone maker in the business market, RIM is the darling of the corporation and is not willing to cede its well earned spot to anybody.
With introduction of the iPhone 3G Apple will leverage is business strategy, with millions of iphone running throught corporation networks and business depending more and more on them to run mobility solutions, the next and more anticipated step is to bring more and more macs for an even easier deployment of IT mobile strategies, something that Apple has been planning with Mobileme and with a centralized/location based processing for the iphone, a recently filed patent application from Apple.
